Hill College Board of Regents holds first monthly meeting of 2024

On January 16, 2024, the Hill College Board of Regents met for the first regular session meeting of the new year.
The minutes from the December meeting were approved. The financial report was also presented and approved.
Hill College President Dr. Thomas Mills presented his report, including the staff holiday party and All Staff Day. Among others, Billy Don Curbo, vice president of administrative services, Paula Curbo, instructor of biology, and Joan West, information technology and learning information PC lab assistant, all received service awards at All Staff Day.
An update on enrollment was presented; enrollment is relatively flat at this time for the spring semester.
Personnel updates were also presented and approved.
Interim Athletic Director and Dean of Students Randy Graves presented the athletic report, including current standings for men’s and women’s basketball and rodeo. Baseball and softball both open their seasons at the end of this month. Cross country, track, volleyball, and men’s and women’s soccer are all currently recruiting. Dr. Mills presented a consideration of approval for the creation of the Hill College Frontier Support Logistics Truck Driving Academy as well as a consideration of approval for updates to the tuition and fee schedule for Job Training & Workforce Partnerships. The motions were approved pending a completed, acceptable master service agreement.
Vice President of Administrative Services Billy Don Curbo presented a consideration of approval for the purchase of copiers and printers at a cost of $64,513.99. The motion passed.
Following the executive session two motions were presented for consideration. Board member Dwight Lloyd made a motion to approve the purchase of the Carroll property for $150,000. The motion passed.
Board member Bill Galiga made a motion for the college to make an offer to purchase the Poppy Growth property and the Waggoner property with a 90-day option period in order to conduct a hydrostatic study and investigate Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) access. The motion passed.
